Sapkowski's tongue is often firmly in cheek, but he also writes very dark and very emotional scenes--all of this together creates some very endearing characters. Another issue that keeps nagging at me whenever I pick up a Witcher book is that every few pages there suddenly pops a long train of thought or bood that feels utterly unnatural.
Elvves definitely for mature people who can appreciate brilliant dialogues, sense of humor and surprising intrigues.
I have seen o people say how great these books are, elvs that they are very Sword and Sorcery, Conan Esq pulpy fantasy, which is totally me! Only, there's more to Ciri than the witchers can handle, which is why they request the aid of the enchantress, Triss Merigold, who also points out that the witchers are all big stupid men who don't know how to treat a year-old og, much less a princess.
Remains to be seen if the setup is worth one whole book but one gets the feeling that so short a book could easily have been added on top of the next one. Triss gets horny when she's mad page 74 and doesn't mind sleeping with her best friend's man page And bloody shrimping presumptuoustoo! The tone is tounge-in-cheek, but direct.
Ciri even her name is retarded is the kind of character I want to kick across the room. It's worth pointing out that this book is the first of a series, despite GoodReads naming it the third.

Although if I had to choose the best moment is when Geralt defeated a bpood and argues with a naturalist if there are such creatures, while an insufferable child is saying that his father is better than everyone.
