I now recall that after I finished the Vista "Upgrade Anytime" that it automatically re-installed the modem driver and this is when my audio stopped devlce.

Oh, I use windows vista x86 after I upgraded to ultimate from basic which began to caused the problem. I no longer have the ability to use the modem or maybe devuce would work if I troubleshot a little further but since it has been years since I used a modem I didn't bother trying.
